Football star sings for Africa
13 September 2007
Chelsea footballer Didier Drogba will sing at the Royal
Albert Hall at Football Reaching Out For Africa, a charity concert
benefiting Aids victims.
A source at the Albert Hall said: "He has definitely agreed to
sing. Apparently he has a good voice. It shows real guts that he's
prepared to do it."
The concert will take place on 23 September and will feature the
performance by the African Footballer of the Year, although he has
not chosen a song as yet.
Football Reaching Out For Africa (FROFA) was created by singer
Patti Boulaye in order to raise money and awareness for the HIV and
Aids issue in Africa. Money will go towards funding the building of
Support For Africa healthcare centres.
Produced by Major Sir Michael Parker CBE, the concert will also
feature a 3,000-strong gospel choir and an array of international
football stars and celebrities.
Thierry Henry will present a special Thierry Henry Young
Achiever Award, while David James, Etame Mayer Lauren and Sean
Davis are all expected to attend.
Ms Boulaye said: "In order to tackle Aids/HIV at its root cause
in Africa, we must stop treating Africa as if it is a country.
Africa is a vast continent with hundreds of traditions and
religious beliefs, which will need to be taken into account when
devising a specific AIDS campaign for each area and country.
"All we need now is your support to help raise awareness and to
raise much needed funds to continue the good work for the benefit
of innocent people and children who are cursed by this deadly
double act, HIV/Aids and malaria."
