Walliams joins Cracknell challenge
19 February 2008
Little Britain star David Walliams is joining James
Cracknell on part of his massive sporting challenge to raise money
for charity.
The comedian has been asked by the Olympic gold medallist to
join him for the final part of his journey from the UK to Africa
because of his previous experience.
Cracknell is planning to cover over 1,400 miles to cross between
continents and will travel by rowing, cycling and swimming.
Although the 35-year-old is a champion in his own field, Mr
Walliams is helping him to swim the final leg having already swum
the English Channel in aid of Sport
Relief in 2006.
Completing his 21-mile swim to France in ten-and-a-half hours,
the funnyman raised £500,000 for charity.
Now the unlikely pair will swim the 12 miles across the Strait
of Gibraltar together.
Cracknell said: "I'm going to need all the help I can get by the
end of this challenge and David is a real pro. So having him there
on the day will be a massive boost."
Prior to meeting up with David, James will row across the
Channel and cycle more than 1,000 miles across France and
Spain.
The money raised by the challenge will go towards the BBC's
Sport Relief charity and highlights of the action will be broadcast
on March 14th.
