Designer gives bags to charity
2 July 2008
Designer Cath
Kidston and Tesco have teamed up to help the environment and raise
money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
New shopping bags designed by Ms Kidston will be sold in larger
Tesco stores from July, priced at £3.50 - 50 pence of which goes to
the charity.
The bags are made entirely of recycled plastic and there will be
six designs released over the coming six months.
It is hoped that buying the bags will reduce consumers' need for
plastic bags, thus helping the environment.
Sean Carroll, Marie Curie Cancer Care PR Executive, said that
the charity's partnership with Tesco was hoped to raise around £2.5
million.
"This will fund an additional 125,000 hours of nursing care for
patients and their families," he added.
Modbury in South Devon became the first place in Europe to
become a ''plastic bag-free zone'' in May last year.
