Twestival set to raise £1m for Charity: water

Man using laptopSocial networking website Twitter will host a variety of events today in the hope of raising more than £1 million for Charity: water.

Entitled Twestival, the project involves volunteers from all over the world putting on events in more than 175 cities to generate funds for the water organisation.

The project is supported by the website, on which users have proposed and coordinated events all over the world.

London Twestival organiser Amanda Rose told the Guardian: "I would do cartwheels if we made over $1m.

"That would pay for 50,000 people to get safe clean drinking water for 20 years."

It was recently reported that celebrities Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry regularly use the website and may become involved in the events.

Charity: water is a project that aims to bringing clean and safe water to people in developing countries.
