Twestival set to raise £1m for Charity: water
12 February 2009
Social networking website Twitter will host a variety of
events today in the hope of raising more than £1 million for
Charity: water.
Entitled Twestival, the project involves volunteers from all
over the world putting on events in more than 175 cities to
generate funds for the water organisation.
The project is supported by the website, on which users have
proposed and coordinated events all over the world.
London Twestival organiser Amanda Rose told the Guardian: "I
would do cartwheels if we made over $1m.
"That would pay for 50,000 people to get safe clean drinking
water for 20 years."
It was recently reported that celebrities Jonathan Ross and
Stephen Fry regularly use the website and may become involved in
the events.
Charity: water is a project that aims to bringing clean and safe
water to people in developing countries.
