Johnson Matthey refocus with results
Johnson Matthey is
a speciality chemicals company focused on its core skills in
catalysis, precious metals, fine chemicals and process
technology.
Johnson Matthey has an active and wide ranging charitable
donations programme encompassing medical research, education, care
for the disabled and young people's charities as well as a number
of worldwide community action programmes.
As an organisation dedicated to sustainability and efficiency,
last year, Johnson Matthey proactively identified a need to review
and re-focus their charitable giving programme to maximise its
impact on the community whilst reducing unnecessary administrative
costs. At the time, the majority of their giving was directed to
organisations formed through historic partnerships, recommendations
from staff and appeals made directly to them. They had a Charity of
the Year scheme and a grant making programme which made a large
number of small payments.
In May, CAF was approached to undertake this review on behalf of
Johnson Matthey. This decision was made following a long standing
relationship with CAF for over 10 years and the knowledge that CAF
works with 75% of the FTSE 100 companies.
CAF’s Advisory and Consulting team based the review on its own
established framework, drawing on expertise and best practice
throughout CAF’s network in the UK and Internationally. It
included a review of the application processes, charity
partnerships, and monitoring/impact measurement. Recommendations
were made on ways to streamline and simplify, improve monitoring,
evaluation, performance measurement and employee engagement.
“As a result of the review our programme has greatly
improved in efficiency and our impact on the community. The
application processes have been streamlined which means both our
own organisation and the charities we support are able to save time
and costs.”
