Guardian wins gold thanks to staff generosity

Guardian Media GroupWinning the Payroll Giving Quality Mark Gold Award has made Guardian News & Media (GNM) proud of its staff’s generosity, according to Hannah Judge-Brown, its Sustainable Development Co-ordinator.

GNM, a leading multimedia business which includes the guardian and Observer newspapers, has offered Give As You Earn, CAF’s payroll giving scheme, to its 1,700 staff for over 7 years.

But it doesn’t content itself with simply offering the scheme to its staff, it works hard to keep Give As You Earn at the top of their minds too. Hannah Judge-Brown explains: "New employees are told about Give As You Earn as part of their induction, it is featured in the new starter pack they receive and it has a permanent presence on our staff intranet."

As an extra incentive, GNM matches the first £100 given by their staff when they sign up to the scheme.

Recently GNM employed the services of Sharing the Caring, CAF’s fundraising promotions team, to actively promote the scheme face-to-face to its staff, a promotion it runs annually.

This proactive approach has paid spectacular dividends, with almost 40% of GNM staff signed up to Give As You Earn, easily surpassing the 10% threshold needed to win the Gold award.

Hannah Judge-Brown says: “Winning the Payroll Giving Quality Mark Gold Award for 2008 has made us very proud of our staff’s generosity."
