Disability and the arts gets Olympics charity boost
8 October 2009
Unveiled ahead of the London
2012 Olympic Games, Unlimited will be the largest ever arts and
disability programme in the UK, aiming to bring new works into
mainstream culture.
Principally backed by the National Lottery, the scheme will fund
new works and support artists to develop their skills and
talents.
Speaking at the launch of the scheme, Jenny Sealey, artistic
director of Graeae Theatre Company, said: "Unlimited is an
opportunity like no other for an extraordinary programme of art,
performance and spectacle - a chance to speak to the world about
the quality of what we do."
The Cultural Olympiad began in September 2008 with an open
weekend featuring 655 events including festivals, arts
performances, free films, music performances and workshops.
Artists keen to participate can apply for grants of between
£25,000 and £50,000 and applications should be made through Arts
Council England’s Grants for the Arts programme.
