Rage Against the Machine to give single proceeds to
charity
21 December 2009
Californian
rock band Rage Against the Machine will donate the proceeds of its
chart-topping track Killing in the Name to charity, it has been
revealed.
According to guitarist Tom Morello, the money raised through the
sale of more than 500,000 downloads will be given to Shelter and Youth
Music.
The track beat X Factor contestant Joe McElderry's cover of
Miley Cyrus' The Climb to the number one spot after a successful
campaign on social networking website Facebook.
Confirming that the band will play a free UK concert to
celebrate the achievement, Morello said: "We are also pleased that
so much money has been raised for homeless charity Shelter and are
happy to donate as well to aid this important cause."
He added that the success proves that "ordinary people, banding
together in solidarity, can change anything".
Youth Music is the UK's largest children's music charity
providing financial backing for activities and projects.
It has provided over two million young people with access to
musical equipment and training since it was established in
1999.
