BIG reveals areas eligible for local funding
29 July 2010
The Big Lottery
Fund (BIG) has revealed the first 50 local areas in which community
groups and charities can apply for financial support under its new
funding stream.
The £200 million Big Local Trust will see a total of 150
neighbourhoods across England benefit from between £1 million and
£2 million of support over ten years.
Areas set to receive funding include Allenton in Derby, Wick
Ward in Hackney and Mottingham in Bromley.
The remaining two-thirds of the recipient neighbourhoods will
have a history of difficulty in obtaining resources.
BIG Chief Executive Peter Wanless said the funding will help
people develop the skills and confidence to improve their
community.
"The trust will involve people in each of the selected 50 areas
to decide on the best way to use the funding. This builds on BIG's
record of giving people a greater say in where lottery money goes,"
Mr Wanless added.
The National Lottery has raised a total of £24 billion since it
began in 1994, distributed through more than 330,000 grants.
