Tools for Self Reliance supports poverty reduction in Africa by working with local partner organisations to deliver vocational training projects which enable participants to earn a sustainable income. Alongside practical training in trades such as carpentry, bricklaying, tailoring and hairdressing, programmes include business and financial management skills and support in setting up a small enterprise. At the end of the training, participants are equipped with a start up kit of tools, donated and refurbished in the UK. Good quality, affordable hand tools are hard to come by in the countries we work in (Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia) and including them reduces start up costs. Earning more money means children in school, better food, and medical care, helping to break the cycle of poverty.
