Hackney Winter Night Shelter provides homeless people in our community with a hot meal and a bed overnight. People who use our shelter are treated as guests rather than clients. We offer our guests a warm welcome, a smile, a laugh and sometimes a shoulder to cry on. The personal touch and respectful, individual treatment is crucial to the ethos of HWNS. Our shelter is staffed by around 500 volunteers who serve as bed makers, welcomers, cooks, washers-up, overnighters and cleaners.
