Office of Third Sector announces £3m volunteer managing grant
scheme
11 June 2009
The Office of the Third Sector has announced new grants for
volunteer managers in the UK over the next two years.
Run by public body Capacitybuilders, the programme will see a
total of £3 million allocated to a number of volunteering
development organisations with a view to offering appropriate
training to those who manage volunteers.
Campbell Robb, director-general for the Office of the Third
Sector, said: "This is particularly important now, as volunteering
organisations are reporting that more people want to volunteer to
gain new skills and improve their employability.
"This fund will also help sustain the future of
volunteering."
Delivered through three inter-connected strands, the scheme will
run until March 2011.
Meanwhile, Angela Smith was appointed as the new minister for
the third sector on Monday 8 June after a Labour cabinet
reshuffle.
Charities Aid Foundation chief executive John Low stated this
week that Smith should put "tax effective giving and Gift Aid
reform at the top of her agenda". For further details, please
