Office of Third Sector announces £3m volunteer managing grant scheme

Volunteer with hand upThe Office of the Third Sector has announced new grants for volunteer managers in the UK over the next two years.

Run by public body Capacitybuilders, the programme will see a total of £3 million allocated to a number of volunteering development organisations with a view to offering appropriate training to those who manage volunteers.

Campbell Robb, director-general for the Office of the Third Sector, said: "This is particularly important now, as volunteering organisations are reporting that more people want to volunteer to gain new skills and improve their employability.

"This fund will also help sustain the future of volunteering."

Delivered through three inter-connected strands, the scheme will run until March 2011.

Meanwhile, Angela Smith was appointed as the new minister for the third sector on Monday 8 June after a Labour cabinet reshuffle.
