Gervais and other celebrities design bags for prostate cancer

18 June 2009

Ricky GervaisBritish comedian Ricky Gervais and other celebrities have taken part in a new fundraising scheme to support The Prostate Cancer Charity.

High-profile personalities were invited to customise a series of men's handbags for The Manbag Company, which will be auctioned off for the good cause later this year.

Other contributors include Rio Ferdinand, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, Alan Carr and Jade Jagger.

Gervais commented on the initiative: "Prostate cancer touches the lives of 35,000 men and their families every year in the UK. I hope the auction of celebrity manbags will raise as much money as possible for The Prostate Cancer Charity."

John Neate, chief executive of the charity, added that the idea had "struck people's imaginations and revealed some hidden artistic talent".

One man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK.

The Prostate Cancer Charity provides support and information and funds research into the disease.
