Capacitybuilders to deliver 250 modernisation grants to third sector

Volunteer caring for the elderlySome 250 key third sector organisations will receive a £1,000 bursary award under the government's Real Help for Communities Modernisation Fund, it has been announced.

Delivered by Capacitybuilders, the grants programme is geared towards bringing charities into the 21st century and helping them become more resistant to the economic downturn.

Capacitybuilders chief executive Matt Leach commented: "This first tranche of awards means we’re on track to support hundreds of frontline groups become stronger and more resilient, providing direct benefit to the communities and individuals across the country who rely on them for advice, support and services."

Part of a £16.5 million Real Help for Communities scheme, the £1 million fund is open to new applicants until 17 July, after which the recipients will be announced.

A second phase of the bursary programme will award grants of up to £10,000 to aid charity mergers and collaborations this autumn.

Capacitybuilders is a non-departmental public body that receives funding from the Office of the Third Sector at the Cabinet Office.
