13 July 2009

A cup of coffeeCoffee shop chain Starbucks will begin a work placement scheme as part of a 5 year partnership with youth charity The Prince's Trust.

Starting this month, the firm will attempt to boost the skills of unemployed young people in Britain by offering them two weeks of work at their local branch.

Martina Milburn, chief executive of The Prince's Trust, told Children and Young People Now: "Having the support of a company like Starbucks is an exceptional opportunity, enabling us to help more disadvantaged young people into work."

Darcy Willson-Rymer, managing director of Starbucks UK and Ireland, added that the chain is "delighted" to be working with the youth charity.

Starbucks is also looking to encourage people to organise their own coffee-themed fundraising event and is selling books in-store for the benefit of the charity.

The Prince's Trust supports more than 100 14 to 30-year-olds every working day, helping them develop workplace skills such as confidence and motivation.
