Two long-serving Trustees retire from the Charities Aid
Foundation
16 October 2009
Peter Berry CMG
(pictured right), Vice Chairman of the Charities Aid Foundation
(CAF) board of Trustees and Chairman of CAF’s International
Management Committee, is stepping down after having served the
maximum nine years of service.
Sir John Stuttard (pictured below) is also retiring after
serving six years as a Trustee with a break during his time as Lord
Mayor of London. He is also standing down from the Audit, Risk and
Compliance Committee.
As Chairman of the International Management Committee at CAF,
Peter Berry has overseen the creation of CAF’s international
network and ensured that all CAF’s offices are able to work as one
cohesive organisation, developing local and cross-border giving and
philanthropy around the world.
CAF Chairman, Lord Cairns said, “I thank Peter and John for
all they have done for CAF. We have benefited enormously from their
expertise and experience.
“CAF will miss Peter’s energy and passion for charity. He has
played a crucial role in ensuring that CAF’s global network works
together to offer individuals and companies global solutions to
their giving needs. I wish him all the best for the future.”
In July, Sue Ashtiany, Dominic Casserley and Jenny Watson became
Trustees of CAF.

Notes to Editors
1. The Charities Aid Foundation is a charity set up to help
other charities by working with donors, companies and charities to
encourage and facilitate a culture of giving. They do this by
offering products and services that make giving easier, tax
efficient and help charities to make the most of donations through
their banking and fundraising support services.
2. The CAF International Network spans six continents and has
over $4 billion of charitable funds under management. Its eight
offices are: CAFAmerica, CAF Australia, Bulgarian CAF, CAF India,
CAF Russia, CAF Southern Africa, IDIS (Brazil) and CAF UK. As well
as connecting donors with charities locally and across borders, it
campaigns for tax-efficient giving around the world and has
distributed money to over 90 countries.
3. Peter retired in 2007 as Chairman of the Crown Agents for
Overseas Governments and Administrations, which he joined in 1982,
and remains President of the Crown Agents Foundation.
He is President of the UK chapter of Transparency International
– the anti-corruption NGO – as well as a founder member of their
international advisory council, and chairs the Scottish Crop
Research Institute, which is constituted as a charity in
Scotland.
He has served as a non-executive director of three UK-quoted
companies, and is a director and trustee of Charity Bank and is a
retained advisor to the City of London Corporation on international
affairs. In 1999 Peter was awarded the CMG for services to
humanitarian aid and in 2008 he was awarded the Japanese Order of
the Rising Sun for services to international development.
