Charity ball raises thousands for ChildLine

Esther RantzenA charity event has raised £265,000 for the support and advice organisation ChildLine.

Hosted by comedian Christopher Biggins, the I'm A Celebrity ChildLine Ball was attended by a number of famous faces, including Carly Zucker, David Van Day, Joe Swash and Esther Rantzen.

The event featured a three course meal, a live bush tucker trial and an auction with various lots such as holidays to South Africa, Egypt and Greece.

Dan Gopal, chairman of the ChildLine Ball committee, said: "We are delighted that the ball raised so much money for ChildLine while entertaining all our guests at the same time.

"The night was a huge success and we are extremely grateful for all the support we got from our sponsors, table hosts and guests."

Esther Rantzen, ChildLine founder and president, also thanked all individuals involved in raising the £265,000.

ChildLine was established in 1986 and recently launched a new online counselling service, giving children more ways to get support from the organisation.

The NSPCC officially merged with ChildLine in February 2006.
