Lionel Messi backs ICRC humanitarian campaign
30 October 2009
Argentine footballer Lionel
Messi has spoken out in favour of a humanitarian campaign headed by
the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Red Crescent
Movement.
Our World, Your Move aims to boost awareness of humanitarian
crises worldwide in a bid to convince individuals of how important
their support is.
Launched in May, the campaign has received donations from 460
events in 130 countries, such as concerts, exhibitions, gatherings
and first aid demonstrations.
Barcelona player Messi told the charity: "By cooperating with
those around us, we can not only achieve small goals, but also meet
great challenges.
"It's not an impossible dream - it doesn''t take much to make
the world a better place."
Other famous faces who have backed the movement include
songwriter and political activist Angelique Kidjo, James Bond
director Marc Forster and tennis champion Ana Ivanovic.
The campaign has its own blog, which features games and
downloads, as well as a history of the ICRC, which was founded by
Henry Dunant in 1863.
