Setting up a CAF Trust

Grandfather with childIf you have at least £10,000 to give to charity, setting up a CAF Trust is the smart way to give lasting support to your favourite causes -  even beyond your own lifetime.

You build up a capital sum and give the income to charity once it’s invested. You can also choose to distribute the capital to charity at a later date. You can involve your family in your charitable giving with the satisfaction of knowing that you’re making a real difference.

David Pitt-Watson shares his experience of using CAF Trust services.David Pitt-Watson set up his CAF Trust in 2004.

“I wanted the flexibility to give to a range of charities in an enduring way...it’s so easy...The CAF Trust was recommended to me, and I would absolutely recommend it to others.”

Why set up a CAF Trust?

Setting up a charitable trust independently is a monumental task. It's also incredibly time-consuming.

But setting up a CAF Trust gives you the features of an independent trust, without any of the hassle.

Our role

You needn't worry about:

We make it so simple that your CAF Trust can be set up within a matter of days.

You can also name your trust - after yourself or even your family.

Expert advice

Setting up a CAF Trust gives you access to personalised consultancy and advice.  Through our advisory service, we help you identify charities: either ones in your area or causes tailored to meet your requirements.

We can also give you advice on how to make the most of your philanthropy. We can conduct a site visit to a charity you supported to provide you with a report on how it spent your donation.

You can have confidence that your donation will be invested where it is needed most.

Funding your trust

You can fund the trust in a number of different ways – simultaneously if you wish – using:

  • bank transfers
  • cheques (when we will be able to claim Gift Aid for you), by payroll
  • donating shares

It’s easy to donate the income to your favourite causes using our ‘charity chequebook’, CharityCard or online services. And you’ll also receive quarterly account statements.
