Our social investment gurus will be put to the test to unlock new opportunities at a major industry event next week.

Holly Piper and Holger Westphely from CAF Venturesome will be taking part in the Good Deals and Beyond Good Business conference on Tuesday, to discuss and debate key issues  with social entrepreneurs, social investors and mission-driven businesses.

At the event, Head of CAF Venturesome Holly Piper, will be grilled by industry experts in a Dragons Den-style event.

The aim of the ‘reverse pitching’ session is to put the UK’s leading social investors on the spot, covering everything from investee relations and  interest rates, to who gets the money that’s being invested and the infrastructure supporting the UK’s social economy.

Speaking ahead of the event, Holly said:

“I am looking forward, with some trepidation(!), to the Reverse Pitching session – where CAF Venturesome and other leading social investors will be scrutinised by leading charities and social enterprises.  Hopefully this will be a fantastic opportunity for charities and social enterprises to get to know us, and ask us challenging questions.”

Senior Investment Manager Holger, who is also on the line-up, will discuss his take on blockchain and how new technologies can impact the social economy.

“Good Deals is a core event in my diary, an opportunity to catch up with the latest developments and hear from many of our peers in the social investment sector. I have attended a few years now and each time there was a person I didn’t expect to meet, a discussion I didn’t expect to have or an organisation that inspired me, making it a memorable occasion.”

Now in its 10th year, the anniversary of Good Deals has been marked with a collaboration with the Beyond Good Business conference.

Delivered by Pioneers Post and its partners Hatch, the event will also feature talks on ‘How Creativity can change the World’ and ‘The Inconvenient Truth about Social Investment’.

CAF Venturesome – the social investment arm of the Charities Aid Foundation – was one of the first social investment funds to be set up in the UK.  Since 2002 it has made over 550 social investments totalling over £45m to charities, social enterprises and community groups.
