SPOTLIGHT ON JOANNE WEDDERSPOON

07 June 2018

Joanne Wedderspoon has recently joined CAF Venturesome as funder relations manager, to maintain and develop the relationships we have with philanthropic funders, HNWI, grant-making trusts and corporates, that support our funds.  Joanne will also ensure that CAF Venturesome’s communications attract awareness of our mission and therefore more social investment deal enquiries.

TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR BACKGROUND

Following an early career working in the City at Mercury Asset Management and Lehman Brothers, I went to work for the European Chairman of Burson-Marsteller, Lord Watson of Richmond.   This experience gave me a broad understanding of investment banking and communications.  I worked with many HNWI, politicians and senior figures in the corporate world.  After a career break to have my two children, now teenagers, I decided to use my corporate skills to raise charitable funds for The English-Speaking Union.   I was one of the original team to set up the social enterprise members’ club, the House of St Barnabas and re-launch the charity, the House of St Barnabas Employment Academy in 2013.   I led the Development Team, responsible for all fundraising to supplement the social business income and oversaw Marketing and Communications.

WHAT TYPES OF CAUSES ARE YOU MOST ATTRACTED TO?

I am motivated to help people, whether seeing them achieve their potential, creating links between communities or supporting organisations that strive to improve human conditions.   As a mother of teenagers, I am passionate about projects that offer young people skills to learn and thrive in the world today.
