CAF comments on The Queen's Speech
In response to The Queen's Speech, Neil Heslop OBE, Chief Executive, said:
"We welcome the announcement of legislation on levelling up. It is important that charities have a seat at the table if the ambition of levelling up the country is to become a reality. Charities are embedded in every community across the country delivering services and helping to create a sense of place, meaning they are well positioned to help the Government meet its mission to improve living standards, raise educational attainment and reduce health disparities.
"We know the cost-of-living crisis is causing challenges for charities and those they support. The Government should consider whether any initiatives introduced to help the private sector should be extended to charities.
"We look forward to the publication of a Procurement Bill. As part of this, a simplification of the procurement process would be welcomed by charities and hopefully other, ongoing procurement challenges addressed.
"With many local bank branches closing in recent years, some charities and community groups are struggling to access banking services. We therefore look forward to measures being introduced to help secure access to cash. The provision of financial services for charities is important for them to be able to operate, fundraise and ensure they can continue to serve their communities."
