CAF Venturesome shortlisted as a social investment pioneer

Thursday 28 April

The social investment arm of the Charities Aid Foundation – CAF Venturesome – has been nominated in two categories of the Social Investment Awards.

The Awards recognise 15 social enterprises and investors in categories including institutional social investment, new social investors, social entrepreneurs, market building and public service transformation.

CAF Venturesome has been shortlisted for awards in institutional social investment and market building.

The institutional social investment category recognises an institutional investment deal or product that has created demonstrable social impact at scale.  CAF Venturesome has been identified for its work with Totnes Community Development Society, a local volunteer-led organisation hoping to turn a derelict dairy factory site into over 60 affordable homes for local people.

The market building category identifies organisations that demonstrate innovative and diverse ways of growing the social investment market in the UK.  CAF Venturesome has been shortlisted for the SE-Assist Wales fund.  This new fund – supported by Legal & General – aims to support social enterprises across Wales with affordable loans and corporate mentors.  CAF Venturesome works with a range of local partners including the Wales Co-operative Centre, Business in the Community Cymru, the Institute of Directors Wales, the Welsh Government and Legal & General.

Holly Piper, Head of CAF Venturesome, said:

“We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for two prestigious Social Investment Awards.  Our work with Totnes Community Development Society demonstrates the role social investment can play supporting community land trusts across the country to build much-needed homes.

Our newest fund, SE-Assist Wales, partners with local organisations and Legal & General to bring much needed social investment to an area historically under-served by the market.  Since we launched earlier this year we have seen huge demand from Welsh social enterprises which is very exciting for the future.”

The overall winners will be announced at the RBS Headquarters in London on Tuesday 3 May 2016.
