Commenting on the Government’s announcement of endowment funds
to arts organisations, Hannah Terrey, Head of Policy at the
Charities Aid Foundation, said:
"British culture is one of the things that makes this country a
great place in which to live and work. In these tough times it is
good news that the Government is working with donors to support the
great cultural life of the nation.
"Matching donations is a highly effective way of encouraging
people to give and Ministers are right to look at ways to build a
culture of philanthropy to help support the causes we all care
about.
"At a time of public sector cutbacks, the country needs generous
people to step in and help maintain our cultural institutions and
voluntary organisations of all kinds. Ministers across
government need to work with charities to find creative ways of
helping charities ensure that what is great about Britain survives
and thrives for future generations."
