PROTECTING YOUR ACCOUNT ONLINE

Online banking fraud is headline news. Recent media reports have shone a spotlight on cyber crime, but organisations can be as vulnerable to internal fraud. Charities are no exception.

HOW TO REDUCE YOUR RISK OF FRAUD

Controlling who has access to your organisation’s online banking is an essential means of protection. So when an authorised account administrator leaves your organisation, it is important to remember to remove their access. It’s also best practice to review existing account users’ administration rights every month.

The primary authorised user for a charity’s banking is responsible for managing and updating the online banking access rights of individuals who the primary user has authorised to use this service.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR USERS UP-TO-DATE

You should regularly log into CAF Bank Online to check and ensure that the details we hold about your authorised online banking users are correct and up-to-date. This will only take a few minutes, but will give you peace of mind.

TOP TIPS FOR KEEPING SAFE ONLINE

  • Avoid clicking through links in suspicious-looking or unexpected emails, especially those you receive from an unknown source. Always access CAF Online Banking from the CAF website
  • Protect your computer with strong passwords, anti-virus software, and keep it up-to-date
  • Access your account from a secure location, avoiding public WiFi and internet cafes
  • No computer should be left unattended, always log out when you have finished each online banking session
  • Commit your user IDs and passwords to memory and never share your log in details with anyone
  • Never reveal all of the characters of your unique word – we will only ever ask for three characters
  • Verify that all the displayed payee names, account numbers and sort codes, and payment amounts, are accurate before submitting or authorising payments
  • Report any unusual or abnormal system behaviours to CAF Bank immediately
