The Campaign for Freedom of Information in Scotland (CFoIS) promotes transparency, accountability and scrutiny. Established by the Scottish Consumer Council in 1984 to secure a legal right of access to information, we enable people to find out about how they are governed and their services delivered. We have been involved in all the major developments of the legislation at a Scottish level. CFoIS delivers training, to over 250 people in 2021, participates in consultations and produces reports. CFoIS organises the Scottish Public Information Forum (SPIF) for right holders and duty bearers to discuss the operation of the law and accessing information. Its role is included in the Scottish Government’s 6 FoI principles to ‘maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders’. In January 2022, CFoIS published the Freedom of Information (Scotland) (no2) Bill to reform and update the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FoISA) and are currently promoting its adoption by MSPs.
