GLOBAL HIV EPIDEMIC

With an estimated 36.7 million people living with HIV around the world, it’s a global epidemic; particularly prevalent in low and middle-income countries, with Sub-Saharan Africa being the most affected region. Without treatment, average survival time after infection is estimated to be just 9 to 11 years, depending on the HIV subtype.

Formed through a unique partnership between GSK and Pfizer, the company now combines the HIV expertise of GSK, Pfizer and Shionogi, who joined in 2012 following a long-term collaboration on the joint development of several novel integrase inhibitors.

Their dedicated staff of more than 700 people work in 15 countries. They extend this geographical reach further still via their relationship with GSK to establish a presence in more than 65 countries around the globe. They are equipped to move quickly in response to the needs of the HIV community and have launched industry-leading access initiatives to help deliver on World Health Organisation/UNAIDS goals to reach all those who need treatment.

In addition, they actively support community initiatives in HIV, including their Positive Action programmes, by partnering with like-minded organisations that share their ethos.

POSITIVE ACTION - IMPROVING LIVES

ViiV Healthcare set up its ‘Positive Action’ programme in 1992 to support communities affected by HIV and AIDS. Positive Action works with those who are disproportionately affected by HIV including children, adolescents and young people, girls and women, gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, and transgender people.

The programme targets its funds towards projects that fulfil one or more of their criteria that focuses on:

Delivering greater and meaningful involvement of people living with HIV
Building capacity in grassroots communities
Preventing HIV
Tackling stigma and discrimination, and
Testing innovations in education and care.

What we've achieved so far

Our expertise in complex charity verification has enabled ViiV Healthcare to make donations to over 360 community-based organisations around the world (shown through infographic on the right).
On their behalf, we have delivered £36 million in funding to marginalised groups that may otherwise struggle to receive conventional funding.
Made over 800 separate donations through their CAF Company Account, simplifying ViiV Healthcare’s administration so they can focus on programme delivery and implementation, maximising beneficiary impact.
