Impact Women

Make a bigger impact for women's causes with CAF

As the global focus on women and girls’ equality has gone from strength to strength, there has never been a better time to focus on the solutions which drive real impact and change.

International Women’s Day (8 March) celebrates the social, environmental, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. It also highlights the need for gender parity. With an estimated 31 million girls of primary school age and 32 million girls of lower secondary school age out of school (UNICEF, 2013) and one in three females across the world experiencing violence (United Nations, 2015), it is inspiring to see growing numbers of men and women around the world working together to address these inequalities.

Philanthropy as a tool for social impact

To honour the work of those investing in women’s causes, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) with the support of Suzanne Biegel, Founder and Chief Catalyst for Women Effect, recently hosted the inspirational ‘Impact Women’ event.

We brought together expert speakers and champions of women's issues, philanthropy and social investment to discuss and share ideas on the key issues facing girls and women, and the powerful role philanthropy and social investment can play.

Heart Based Action with Mind Led Strategy

During the day, guests and speakers alike dived into six thematic lounges to explore and debate solutions and challenges across Education, Technology, Human Rights, Environment, Enterprise and Health.

Much was discussed with key consensus reached in five areas:

  • Heart based action must be matched with mind led strategy;
  • We must co-opt men into the conversation around equality and follow the lead of the #heforshe campaign;
  • We must encourage more people to turn outrage into action;
  • We must educate more people to understand the types of action they can take; whether it be philanthropic, or investment based, to the purchasing power we all have and the votes we cast;
  • We must commit to influencing more gender friendly policies and influencing mindsets if we are to address gender inequalities and create balance.

We must recognise and embrace the fact that gender parity underpins our success as a global community with the big issues of our time, like climate change, and economic growth. Consequently, it is even more important that we understand how systems thinking influences success.
