WORLD ANIMAL DAY

World Animal Day aims to raise the profile of animal rights around the world. Find out how you can get involved on 4 October.

WHAT IS WORLD ANIMAL DAY?

Started in 1925 by German writer, publisher and animal activist Heinrich Zimmermann, World Animal Day aimed to bring the world's attention to the plight of endangered species. Its mission now focuses on raising the status of all animals in order to improve welfare standards around the world.

HOW DO WE SUPPORT ANIMAL CHARITIES IN THE UK?

By donating money

According to our latest UK Giving report, animal welfare is something we're all passionate about. In 2015, animal charities were the third most donated-to cause, with those aged between 45 and 64 the biggest givers.

They also received 8% of all donations, with women more likely to give than men.

By volunteering your time

Volunteering is a great way to contribute your time and skills to a cause close to your heart. You can volunteer on your own, with friends and family or with work colleagues, and make a difference in your community.

We spoke to Kathryn Rich, Legacy Officer at CAF, about her experience volunteering at a local animal rescue.
