The cause

Sussex Housing & Care is a not for profit provider of high quality, affordable housing, support and care services for older people across its region.

Founded in 1946, they today provide accommodation to over 800 residents across its three care homes and 25 sheltered retirement and independent living schemes.

To further the support it provides, Sussex Housing & Care embarked on an ambitious, multiyear renovation and expansion programme to its Oakwood Court residential home in Haywards Heath.

Our support

Seeking support for the £9 million project, Sussex Housing & Care secured a loan facility from CAF Bank.

“CAF Bank has been a pleasure to work with - their team has been supportive, and responsive throughout the project.”, says Sussex Housing & Care’s Chief Executive, Tracy Evans.

“Their values align with ours and as a charitable bank they have a good understanding of the not-for-profit sector. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together and look forward to continuing our strong relationship with them.”

The impact

Thanks to CAF Bank’s support, Sussex Housing & Care successfully added an extension of 31 fully furnished rooms to Oakwood, along with a hair and beauty salon, activities room, landscaped gardens, lounge, and dining room.

“I’m delighted that our Oakwood Court Care home development is now complete, delivering much needed, high-quality new homes for older people in Haywards Heath”, says Tracy.

Alongside the extension, significant upgrades were made to the existing Oakwood Court building, including a new reception area, management offices, and a modern commercial kitchen, as well as enhanced communal and support spaces to bring them up to the same standard as the extension.

“Sussex Housing & Care have demonstrated how innovative developments can help housing associations meet the growing need for high-quality, residential care”, says CAF Bank Senior Relationship Director, Sean Taylor.

“From my first visit in full PPE during the pandemic, to seeing the project completed, Oakwood Court is a fantastic demonstration of how specialist lenders can support organisations to benefit residents, families, and the wider community. I look forward to following their progress and working with other organisations inspired by Sussex Housing & Care’s remarkable achievement.”
