What

Revitalising and expanding Brunelcare’s provision of social housing

Why

To support Brunelcare’s goal of providing homes fit for the future

The cause

For over 80 years Brunelcare have been dedicated to supporting individuals to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible in a range of different settings.

The Bristol-based charity provides high-quality housing, care and support services for later living in the South West across multiple sites and locations.

With a mission to provide homes for the future, Brunelcare launched a programme of investment in its housing stock – with ambitious plans to partially redevelop three of its sheltered housing sites, build an increased number of new homes in their place, alongside upgrading the energy efficiency of properties of several existing housing sites.

Our support

To support its mission, Brunelcare turned to CAF Bank, a specialist in financial services for the charity sector and subsidiary of the Charities Aid Foundation.

Following an introduction by financial advisors Centrus, Brunelcare secured a £10m loan facility to make their programme of work possible and ensure ongoing investment in its properties for years to come.

“A cherished local organisation, it was great to visit the Brunelcare team, see the incredible work they do, and understand how we can support their mission in ensuring that residents benefit from high-quality, future-ready homes”, says CAF Bank Relationship Director, Faye Hennessy.

“I am already looking forward to my next visit and seeing the progress they are making in helping to improve the lives of residents.”

As a specialist bank that understands and prioritises the needs of the charity sector, CAF Bank’s secured loans can be repaid in full after only two years, without additional charges.

The impact

The new homes will be accessible, highly energy efficient, built to modern space standards, and are vital to meeting the local demand for affordable rental housing.

“We are really excited to be working with CAF Bank. It provided the best funding option for Brunelcare, with good terms and value for money while being flexible in its approach”, says Brunelcare’s Director of Finance & Digital Services, John Rew.

“Being a subsidiary of a charity, it also shares our charitable ethos, where improving people’s lives is our reason for being. Working with CAF Bank has been a pleasure.”

Also, by installing solar panels, new windows, alongside new insulation and heating systems to existing properties, the work will support Brunelcare in delivering their strategic goal to meet customer expectations for comfort and safety, with all homes meeting an Energy Performance Certificate rating of C by 2030.

“Brunelcare is exactly the kind of organisation CAF Bank is delighted to support”, says CAF Banks Senior Relationship Director, Sean Taylor. “Through our work together, we are pleased to play our role in addressing the national housing crisis and ensuring residents have access to energy efficient homes.”
