Who

The Wheelyboat Trust

What

Provide bespoke vessels for those with disabilities

Why

To help more people enjoy waterborne activities

The cause

The Wheelyboat Trust is dedicated to helping disabled individuals enjoy water-based activities.

Operating throughout the UK and Ireland, the Trust works closely with manufacturers to provide groups with boats that are specially designed for wheelchair users and those with other disabilities.

The custom-made vessels allow everyone to participate in various activities on the water, such as fishing, Sea Cadet training, and different water sports.

Since its foundation in 1984, the Wheelyboat Trust has supported over 230 vessels, made possible thanks to its dedicated fundraising. Their work continues to make waterborne activities inclusive and accessible for all.

Our support

To further their work, the trust needed a banking partner who understood how they operate, the charity sector, and that could provide them services that supported their mission.

CAF Bank are the ideal banking partner”, says the Wheeleyboat Trust’s Director Paul Elgood. “With their experience and their understanding of the sector, they are the best choice for charities.

A wholly owned subsidiary of the Charities Aid Foundation, CAF Bank was founded to provide specialist banking and finance services to the charity and voluntary sector.

To meet their requirements, the Trust selected a CAF Cash Account for their everyday banking needs.

The account provides customers with online banking facilities, the ability to pay in cash and cheques over the counter at the Post Office and HSBC or RBS branches, and support from CAF’s dedicated customer services team.

The impact

Without the provision of accessible boats, disabled people are mostly denied experiences that able-bodied people take for granted”, says Paul.

Wheelyboats remove the barriers to water-based activities thus enabling disabled people to participate alongside and on equal terms with their able-bodied counterparts. For their users, it is an important factor in the quality of life they are able to lead.

Commenting on their work with the Trust, CAF Bank’s Chief Commercial Officer, Richard Hunt says: “Supporting charities is at the heart of everything we do at CAF Bank. As sector specialists, we understand the challenges charities face and have we developed services designed to support them to deliver on their mission.

It has been fantastic to understand more about the incredible work of the Wheelyboat Trust and see the impact they have supporting communities throughout the UK. I’m delighted that their CAF Cash account is helping to ensure that more and more people are benefitting from the enjoyment that nature and waterborne activities can bring.
