APPLYING FOR AN ACCOUNT

We've answered some commonly-asked questions about applying for a CAF Investment Account.

  • Who can apply for a CAF Investment Account?

    Any organisation considered charitable by HMRC can apply for a CAF Investment Account. This includes charities, Community Interest Companies and Community Land Trusts.

  • How much do you charge for the CAF Investment Account?

    To keep our costs clear, we've split them into easy-to-understand parts:

    • account fees
    • transaction charges

    If you choose to buy funds, or other investments that are managed, you’ll also pay charges to the Fund Manager. This charge will vary from fund to fund, and is usually included in the price of the investment.

  • Why do I have to specify different user types when I apply for a CAF Investment Account?

    Having different user types lets you give people different levels of access to your account.

  • What is the role of the Primary Contact?

    The Primary Contact is the main point of contact for the account. They’ll receive all general communications and also notifications that documents eg, contract notes are available to view over the CAF Investment Account. As they need to log in to access the secure messages, they must also be a Viewer, Deal Administrator or Authoriser.

  • What is a Viewer?

    This allows view-only access to your CAF Investment Account. You might want to give this to people who need to know about the account, but aren’t authorised to give instructions on it, eg your Administrators. You might also want to give this access to those who work on your behalf, such as accountants and solicitors.

  • What is a Deal Administrator?

    A Deal Administrator has the same access as the Viewer and in addition can set up trades, instruct withdrawals back to your nominated account, set up, amend or cancel regular investments. However they don’t have permission to authorise any transactions.

  • What is an Authoriser?

    An Authoriser can do all that a Viewer and Deal Administrator can do, plus they can authorise transactions made by Deal Administrators or Authorisers. You'll need two Authorisers to approve any transactions.

  • Why do I need to provide you with my mobile telephone number as part of registration?

    We may use SMS to send you password reminders and other account alerts.

  • Why do I have to prove my identity?

    This helps prevent criminals from accessing the CAF Investment Account and your personal data.

  • How does CFSL verify my identity?

    The law requires us to verify the identity of our new customers, so we carry out various checks to ensure we know who we are dealing with and that that person can act on behalf of your organisation.

  • Can I select a username other than my email address?

    No, your email address will be your username. If you change your email address, it will become your new username.

  • Is there a minimum investment amount for the CAF Investment Account?

    There’s no minimum investment amount.

  • Can I be an online user for more than one charity?

    You can, but as the username is your email address, you would need to use a different email address for each charity.

  • Which exchanges are available to trade on within the CAF Investment Account?

    The CAF Investment Account allows you to trade on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) as well as:

  • I have funds with various Fund Managers - how do I transfer them into the CAF Investment Account?

    It’s easy to transfer in your existing funds when you apply for a CAF Investment Account, or after your account has been opened. If the fund isn’t available through the CAF Investment Account, we’ll work with Winterflood Business Services to see whether it can be added.

  • What type of funds do I have access to through the CAF Investment Account?

    The CAF Investment Account gives you access to buy and manage the widest range of charity-specific funds online. You can also access more than 1,200 funds, plus companies listed on the London Stock Exchange and other markets around the world.

  • Are there any charges associated with transferring existing funds into the CAF Investment Account?

    We won't charge you to transfer in your charity’s existing investments unless you are still holding them in certificated form, in which case a small charge will apply.

  • Will CFSL use my contact details to send me marketing literature about other CFSL products?

    We'll send you information about other CAF products unless you opt-out when you apply for a CAF Investment Account.

  • Why do I need to provide you with my National Insuarance number?
    Your national insurance number is unique to you therefore provides accurate identification, when combined with other information, this ensures your online security.
