New Chair of Trustees for the Charities Aid Foundation

25 February 2025

The Trustees of the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) are pleased to announce the appointment of Sir Edward Braham as the new Chair from July 2025.

Sir Edward has a distinguished career in professional and financial services, and is currently Chair of M&G plc. He is also a non-executive member of the Board of HM Treasury and Chair of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Board of Trustees.

Sir Edward will succeed Sir James Leigh-Pemberton, who has been Chair of CAF since January 2019, having joined the Board in April 2018.

On being appointed as Chair of the Charities Aid Foundation, Sir Edward Braham said:
“I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Chair of CAF. It plays a truly unique role bringing together donors and charities, which has never been more needed to respond to challenges in the UK and globally.

“I look forward to working with my fellow trustees and the wider organisation to support the amazing work that CAF does.”

CAF’s Chief Executive, Neil Heslop OBE, comments:
“I am delighted to welcome Edward as the new Chair of CAF - he will bring an enormous amount to the work of leading our organisation in the years to come. Edward brings extensive experience in the US and UK and has real enthusiasm for and insightful commitment to several philanthropy roles.

“We are extremely grateful to Sir James for his seven years of distinguished service on our Board and as Chair. He has skilfully overseen such a significant period for CAF, including helping us navigate challenges such as the pandemic and mark our centenary.”

Commenting on his tenure as Chair, Sir James Leigh-Pemberton said:
“It has been a privilege to Chair CAF’s Board of Trustees during a period of extraordinary events. One hundred years on since we were founded, CAF is making more of a difference than ever before, thanks to the generosity of engaged donors and charities committed to helping those in need.

“I am delighted to hand over to Edward at such an important time for the organisation and the philanthropy sector. I want to thank all our partners, colleagues and my fellow Trustees for their hard work and unwavering dedication, and for all they do to support charities around the world.”
