Public believe philanthropy is important to UK society, according to new research

17 June 2026

Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) research reveals that 71% of the public think that philanthropy is important to UK society.

The research was commissioned for Integra’s third annual Giving and Impact Summit on 17 June at the London Stock Exchange, with over 140 philanthropists, wealth advisers, and government representatives discussing how to strengthen and promote philanthropy in the UK.

The research also finds that:

  • 45% of the public see high-net-worth individuals as having a ‘duty’ to donate to charitable causes.
  • 58% think that high-net-worth individuals should support communities in need.
  • 63% of the public view philanthropists positively.

CAF's Client Relations Director, Philippa Cornish said:

“Philanthropy and social investment play a crucial role in society, providing essential support for organisations up and down the country.

It's heartening to see that the public view philanthropy positively and recognise its importance, but we can do more to collectively acknowledge its role and harness the many opportunities to grow giving. The more we talk about philanthropy and its impact, the more others will be inspired to give.”
