If you have a large sum of money to donate, you might have considered making a real difference through a grant programme. Our FAQs answer some of the questions you might have about grantmaking.
  • I’m looking for a grant to fund my course or research – who should I contact?
Any open grant programmes will be listed on our Getting a grant page. If you need more information, please contact us on 03000 123 334.
  • Can I run a grantmaking programme myself?
You can, but we have tried and tested ways of helping clients develop and run grant programmes. By asking us to do this for you, it reduces the admin burden on you. We can use our networks to target organisations or run reactive programmes, ensuring that you review only the applicants who’ll meet your objectives.

We can also measure the impact your programme is making within the sector.
  • We get inundated with requests for funding – how can you help me deal with these?
Our team can free you from admin tasks such as dealing with enquiries, reviewing applications against your criteria and making payments.

  • I have a rough idea of where I want to concentrate my support – can you help?
Our framework looks at defining your programme; from your motivation for giving, through to what you’d consider a success. We can discuss the strengths and weaknesses of what you plan to do, and make sure that the right causes are going to benefit.
  • Is there a minimum amount of money required to run a grant programme?
There’s no minimum amount, but we do charge a fee to run your programme for you (depending on your requirements). It might be worth considering whether a CAF Charity Account or CAF Charitable Trust would suit your giving better.
  • How long would you expect my grant programme to last for?
A grantmaking programme is for long-term, planned giving, rather than short-term support. It is possible to run a year-long pilot, with a view to launching a longer programme after that.
  • Do I need to be based in the UK for you to run my grantmaking for me?
We can run a grantmaking programme for you whether you live in the UK or overseas. We can also help you if your area of interest is overseas (although it may take longer to validate any overseas applicants)
  • Do you cover different causal areas?
Whatever cause you support, we can help. We have access to a network of experts in the charity sector and deliver grant programmes on a range of themes from UK Search and Rescue to employability, community projects to neurology.
