Set up your online donation form

From adding a 'donate' button to your website to embedding a donation widget, find out the different ways to set up your donation form online.

Set up your donation page

A widget is a donation form that can be embedded within the pages of your website – it means that donors remain within your website throughout the whole donation process, rather than having to click on a URL which links to an external page.

The benefits of using the donation widget is that it nestles within your website to provide your donors a seamless donation experience.

Take a look at how Who Care's Scotland have embedded their donation widget on their website.

1  Get started

Log into CAF Donate and click on 'Manage your additional campaigns' on the right hand side of your account area.

2  Generate your widget code

You'll see a list of all your campaigns. Scroll down to the one you'd like to link to, and choose the Widget code option under the Embed Donation Pages section.

A box will pop up revealing the code.

3  Add your donation widget to your website

Simply copy and paste the code provided into the HTML code of your website on the page you want it to appear on.

If your charity's website is managed by an external organisation, simply supply them with the widget HTML code so that they can add this to your website.

Don't manage your charity's website?

If your website is managed externally, simply provide the relevant codes shown below to your website manager to embed onto the pages you'd like it to appear on.

Add a 'Donate' button to your website

A simple ‘Donate’ button is available for your website. You can choose the style of your button in the Brand look and feel tab when setting up your campaign.

1  Get started

Log into CAF Donate and click on 'Manage your additional campaigns' on the right hand side of your account area.

2  Reveal your donate button code

You'll see a list of all your campaigns. Scroll down to the one you'd like to create a donate button for, and choose the Donate button code option under the Embed Donation Pages section.

To add your button, click on the ‘Donate Button Code’ link on the right hand side. A pop-up box will appear showing you a preview of a simple donate button.

3  Add the donate button to your website

If you're happy with the preview of your button, click the 'Generate Donate Code' button. This will display the code that needs to be added to your website as a link behind your button.

Simply copy and paste the code provided into the HTML code of your website on the page you want it to appear on.

Top tip
Put a 'donate' button on every page of your site so that donors never have to search for a way to make a donation. The top right of the web page makes it easy to spot.

Link to your donation page via email

Your donate link is a direct hyperlink which can be used in places such as an email newsletter, digital marketing campaign or an app.

The hyperlink will take donors straight to the first page of your donation form.

1  Get started

Log into CAF Donate and click on 'Manage your additional campaigns' on the right hand side of your account area.

2  Reveal your donate hyperlink

You'll see a list of all your campaigns. Scroll down to the one you'd like to link to, and choose the Donate Link URL option under the Embed Donation Pages section.

A box will pop up showing the link.

3  Share your link

Whether it's in an email, an online article or even an app, simply copy and paste the hyperlink where you'd like donor's to click on.
