Over the course of the 2017 general election we put forward our vision for the future of the charity sector, setting out our ideas about how charities and politicians can work together to build a stronger Britain.

We also analysed what was happening during the campaign, providing an insight into each party’s proposals and what they could mean for charities.

CAF is looking at how we can encourage the growth of civil society across the globe. The growth of the global middle class offers huge philanthropic potential if giving levels in countries such as the UK can be matched internationally, representing a means for sustainable domestic development.

We’re exploring an opportunity for the Department for International Development to work collaboratively with governments to develop infrastructure for a thriving civil society, particularly in countries where the UK is transitioning out of aid relationships, to leave a lasting legacy of UK aid.

This will build on the work of the Future World Giving project, and includes recommendations about steps national governments need to take to build a thriving civil society.
