My career with CAF: from apprenticeship to full-time job

What made you decide to do an apprenticeship?

After studying for A-Levels at college, I was undecided whether or not I should go to University or try something else. After a short break, I decided to apply for an apprenticeship. This would give me practical experience as a full-time staff member in a real working environment, and develop my marketing skills – all while gaining a qualification.

The added bonus of not being weighed down by student loans meant that this was the right path for me.

What work did you do during your apprenticeship

I worked with several teams on some great campaigns during my apprenticeship, including Giving Tuesday, CAF Bank, CAF Venturesome and our Global Alliance team.

I’ve helped them create imagery and videos for social media, recorded podcasts for Giving Tuesday and filmed video case studies. For a separate project within the apprenticeship programme, I even helped create a mock-up advert as part of Tesco's Christmas campaign. I’ve also learned how to create and edit web pages, build marketing emails and optimise our web content to help us improve our ranking in search engines.

What are your plans now that your apprenticeship has finished?

I’ve been fortunate enough to be offered a full time job as Digital Content Executive at CAF, where I get to use my new-found skills and experience every day.

What's the best thing about working for a charity?

No two days are ever the same! One day I could be creating animations for a social media campaign and the next travelling to Scotland to film one of our clients. I’ve learnt some really useful skills and worked with a wide range of people in my time here, which has helped build my confidence.

How has CAF helped you develop your skills for the future?

The apprenticeship gave me a valuable opportunity, which I have enjoyed very much. The experience has allowed me to develop my knowledge and skills and enabled me to create a portfolio of assets of which I'm very proud.

I want to say thank you to everyone who provided me with advice and supported me to achieve my apprenticeship.
