We’ve broken the costs down into three parts:

  • account fees
  • transaction charges
  • fund charges

Top tip

When choosing funds, make sure you understand the total cost of the fund which includes the initial charge, Annual Management Charge (AMC) and other costs.

How we calculate your fee

We work out your annual account fees based on the value of your investment portfolio. They’re calculated on a monthly basis and charged to your account quarterly.

If you have multiple portfolios within one CAF Investment Account then the fee scale will be applied to each portfolio separately.

Up to £50,000 0.30%
Next £50,000 to £249,999 0.25%
Next £250,000 to £499,999 0.20%
Next £500,000 to £1,999,999 0.15%
Next £2,000,000 to £10,000,000 0.11%
 £10,000,000+ Negotiable

Total account fees
We will pay Winterflood Business Services for the provision of the dealing and custody arrangements that underpin your CAF Investment Account. These charges will be paid by CFSL from the annual account fees collected on the basis described above.

Each transaction you make has its own costs, which vary based on your investment type.

  • Funds - free - there are no transaction charges for buying and selling investment funds
  • Direct investment:
    • London Stock Exchange quoted equities, bonds and other investments - 0.05% per transaction (Minimum £5 - Maximum £500)
    • Overseas exchanges* quoted equities, bonds and other investments - 0.07% per transaction (Minimum £7 - Maximum £700)

* For a list of the available exchanges, see our FAQs

Example transaction charges

If you bought or sold 14 funds over a year; made three UK quoted equity trades of £10,000 each and one overseas equity trade of £25,000 then your transaction charges would be:

Fund transactionsFree
UK Equity trades (three trades at £10,000 per trade)£15
Overseas Equity trades (one trade at £25,000)£17.50
Total transaction charges£32.50

Fund charges can sometimes be significantly cheaper through the CAF Investment Account than buying direct through a Fund Manager. However, it’s worth checking your existing charges before you make a decision as we can’t guarantee these will be lower.

Each Fund has its own specific charges, which are paid from the value of your investment in the Fund.

This example is for illustration purposes only and is not a recommendation of funds you should select.

*The charges applicable to each Fund available in the CAF Investment Account can be found on their factsheets.
