Global business consultancy, Bain and Company, became a Gold Payroll Giving Quality Mark Award winner in 2010, just 7 months after launching its new charitable initiative, the 'Bain Cares' Fund.

Bain already has a long history of community involvement through 'Bain Cares', which organises pro-bono consulting projects, charity CEO mentoring and volunteering days, alongside a range of education, employability and social enterprise programmes.

The firm signed up to Give As You Earn in the late 1990s, but uptake had dwindled in recent years. In September 2009, they launched the 'Bain Cares' Fund through which employees donate monthly from payroll into a staff charity account. Twice a year members of the fund are invited to nominate charitable projects with which they have a personal connection. Members vote on the charities proposed and projects are funded in order of popularity until all monies are exhausted.

The 'Bain Cares' Fund has proven popular, with over 15% of UK employees signing up. It has achieved this through a wide range of marketing from office-wide meetings, through to posters, events and new employee inductions.

Ben Dimson, Founder of the 'Bain Cares' Fund commented: “The fund provides an efficient way for employees to support high impact charity projects, especially where there is a personal connection to the cause. We are delighted that this exciting initiative has been recognised with a Gold Payroll Giving Quality Award.”
