CAF’s response to the conflict in Ukraine

The intense conflict in Ukraine and the scenes of devastation continue to shock the world. CAF is  working closely with individual donors, companies and our partners, to ensure charitable donations reach where they are needed. With the effects of the crisis likely to be long lasting, CAF can help donors to support charities as they work through the long-term implications.

In the UK, CAF is proudly supporting the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal. DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and across the borders in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova. The charities are working to meet the immediate needs of all people fleeing with food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care.

There are many other charities in the UK providing urgent relief in the area. For a list of these, please visit this webpage.

Funders can find out more about how to support by reading this blog.

CAF America have launched the Corporate Aid for Ukraine Fund (CAU), in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland’s (AmCham Poland) Corporate Aid for Ukraine initiative. The CAU Fund is a donor-advised fund that empowers corporations to provide effective, impactful aid to Ukrainians during time of crisis. The fund is a critical resource in the current humanitarian aid landscape, providing access to frontline aid, enabling tax-deductible donations, providing support from the U.S. Embassy, and ensuring all charity partners are validated charitable organisations.

Responses to the conflict by CAF’s international partners

CAF’s International Network partners

CAF is a member of several international organisations, and donors can help European charities through these network partners.

BCause, Bulgaria

CAF’s network member BCause has been supporting Ukrainian refugees arriving to Bulgaria.  BCause is fundraising for the long-term support and integration of Ukrainian refugees into Bulgarian society. Working closely with volunteer groups and NGOs, the fund will offer housing and psychological support to families, language classes, educational activities for children and employment support for parents.

Transnational Giving Europe (TGE)

CAF is a member of the Transnational Giving Europe (TGE) network. The TGE network covers 19 countries and enables donors, both corporates and individuals, residing in one of the participating countries, to financially support charities in other member countries. Donors still directly benefit from the tax advantages provided for in the legislation of their country of residence.

Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland

TGE Partner, the Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland (ADPP), has established a Ukrainian Emergency Fund to support local Polish non-profits, particularly those operating close to the Polish – Ukraine border. This fund focuses on supporting the most urgent needs of those Ukrainian refugees arriving to Poland. To find out more, visit here.

Carpathian Foundation Hungary and Carpathian Foundation Slovakia

TGE Partners Carpathian Foundation Hungary and Carpathian Foundation Slovakia have joined forces to initiate the Slovak-Hungarian Emergency Response Fund for Ukrainians. The Fund is helping people fleeing Ukraine and crossing the borders with Hungary and Slovakia, either because they are travelling through or staying. It is also assisting internally displaced people in the Western part of Ukraine with humanitarian aid.
