What is Giving Tuesday?

In 2020 Giving Tuesday is on 1 December.  Giving Tuesday is a great way to come together with your family, your community, your company or your organisation and find a way to give back.

Celebrated every year on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. There are thousands of Giving Tuesday partners across the world and the campaign is growing every year.

We would love you to join the movement and give - whether it’s some of your time, a donation, gift, or simply a thank-you to your charity supporters for all their help over the year.

NEWS FROM GIVING TUESDAY

thank you for giving tuesday 2019!

Thank you to each and every one of the people who took part in Giving Tuesday, and the thousands of Giving Tuesday partners who put so much time and effort into making the day an incredible success. Giving Tuesday 2019 was a bumper day for charities across the country.

  • £14.2 million was donated via Visa platforms in the UK on 3 December, nearly £10,000 a minute.  This is a 48% rise in donations though Visa compared to an ordinary Tuesday in 2019.
  • The Big Give charity’s 3-10 December Christmas Challenge was one of the UK’s biggest ever match-funding campaigns.
  • PayPal Giving Fund in the UK made £150,000 available in match funding to charities for Giving Tuesday. Globally PayPal donations raised nearly $106 million on the day itself.
  • RBS donated £250,000 to charities chosen by its employees and customers, and made £100,000 available to match customers’ donations via their MyReward points.

Once again Giving Tuesday trended on UK Twitter and received celebrity backing including from The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Michelle Obama and even the cast of Sesame Street.

The day's success was made possible by the energy and enthusiasm of all the charities, businesses and individuals who came together on Giving Tuesday to make a world of difference!Visit our campaign website to find out more.
