ABOUT OUR DEVELOPMENT FUND

The Development Fund provides social investment to build the capacity of high-impact social organisations working both in the UK and internationally, as long as they are based in the UK*.

Our range of social investments now includes:

Unsecured & secured loans (Loans from £25,000 to £400,000, repayable up to ten years at approximately 6.5%)
Blended Finance packages (part loan / part grant)
Charity Bonds
Social Impact Bonds
Quasi Equity

Social Outcome Contracts

This social investment is for:

recovery from the adverse effects of the COVID-19 crisis
cash flow support to help transition to a sustainable social business model
investing in growth plans
investing in a social enterprise/trading arm to generate unrestricted income
investing in a Social Impact Bond
strengthening social impact measurement systems and processes
supporting financial resilience strategies (e.g. acquisition of a building where appropriate)

Social investment is not available for:

Organisations that cannot demonstrate strong social impact
Organisations who can access bank finance or secured finance
Refinancing of existing debt
Grants only

Eligibility criteria

Are you incorporated in the UK, even if you operate internationally?
Do you have a clear social mission?
Have you been trading for more than a year?
Do you have an annual turnover of at least £60,000?
Can you provide us with plans, financials and governance documents?

Once we receive your email, one of our investment officers will get back to you within a week.

We'll work closely with you to write your application and, when we're happy with it, we'll submit it to our independent investment committee who meet monthly to approve our social investments.

With a social investment of £290,000 from CAF Venturesome, Old Spike Roastery and Change Please have been able to move to new premises, and train and employ more homeless people to work as baristas in their coffee shops.
