About drum works

Drum Works uses drumming as a tool to inspire creativity, build social cohesion and empower vulnerable young people to direct their own futures.

They have four partner schools in East London, two community programmes in Walthamstow and Barking and three progression ensembles. While some strands are accessible to anyone, they prioritise young people facing challenging circumstances and work with partners to reach some of the most vulnerable members of their community.

The CAF Resilience Fund has been a lifeline for us while our income has been badly affected by the pandemic. Supporting our core costs has enabled us to keep providing vital support to our community of young people.

drum works: Their story

During the pandemic, Drum Works felt it vital to continue the fantastic weekly drumming sessions with young people in East London.

The sessions provided a vital opportunity for vulnerable people who have come to rely on Drum Works for consistency, connecting with peers and engaging in these creative drumming sessions.

Many of their participants have social, emotional and mental health needs, behavioural issues or other special educational needs or disabilities. Several participants have fed back how valuable they find the sessions for improving social skills and confidence. It is not just drums but a place to socialise, chat and above all have fun.

The Impact

The opportunity to consistently engage with peers and with positive, creative activities has had a very positive impact for our community throughout this period of social isolation.
