About jigsaw charity

Jigsaw is a member led charity that aims to promote fun, freedom and independence for disabled people in the Bury Metropolitan area.

They help over 215 members and have 70 volunteers across both Jigsaw and Jigsaw Link. They not only provide a sports and social club for young disabled people but also through Jigsaw Link provide a one to one befriending service for people over the age of 50 who are disabled, or have an age related condition and are socially isolated.

"Jigsaw is delighted to receive an award from The CAF Resilience Fund to support the charities core running costs along with the 'Be Kind' project. The 'Be Kind' project supports members of Jigsaw Link (who are over the age of 50, disabled and socially isolated).

Jigsaw: Their story

For many people who access Jigsaw’s service, they are a main source of social contact and for some the only contact. Since the lockdown began, and Jigsaw's regular activities were cancelled, they have set up a 'Be Kind' project to deliver monthly care packages together with a telephone befriending service for their members.

They received £24,000 from the CAF Resilience Fund and the funding has been used to continue their tireless work with their “Be Kind” project as well as covering key costs such as office rent, training and staff salaries.

The “Be Kind “ project through Jigsaw Link delivers monthly care packages which consist of essential food items, toiletries, novels and puzzle books to isolated individuals.  The telephone befriending service aims to provide a familiar voice, company and companionship during these lonely and uncertain times.

The Impact

One of their members, June, who is 85 years old spoke to Jigsaw, highlighting the difference this project has made to her.

I'm so grateful for the boxes that are delivered. It makes me feel as though Jigsaw haven't forgotten me and I still believe I belong.

"Thanks to CAF, the 'Be Kind' project has had a positive impact on lives within the local community and helps to protect loved ones in their home.”
