Find out more about CAFHelp emergency efforts to support the millions of people affected by the earthquakes.
Two catastrophic earthquakes have hit Venezuela. They struck within seconds of each other. Buildings were reduced to rubble in minutes. The scale of destruction is huge.
Hundreds of people have been killed, and the death toll continues to rise. Thousands more are injured, and the country’s hospitals are under extreme pressure.
The UN estimates that millions of people have been affected, with more than 2 million in the worst impacted areas.
Now the survivors urgently need shelter, food, water, and medical care.
Venezuela was already facing a severe economic crisis before the earthquakes. The needs are now overwhelming. Your support can be a lifeline for families affected by this devastating disaster.
DEC charities are working with their local partners to reach people with emergency aid. For more information on how and where DEC member charities are responding, please visit dec.org.uk.
The UK Government will match donations to the Venezuela Earthquake Appeal pound-for-pound up to £2 million, through its UK Aid Match scheme.
You can also search our database for any UK charity, either using a charity name, registered number or key terms, or by logging in to an existing account to give through CAF.
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is an umbrella organisation for 15 humanitarian aid agencies that unites UK aid efforts in times of disaster or crisis, in poorer countries around the world.
We are a cause-neutral charity whose mission is to enable donors to give more effectively to any charity or cause they care about, whether that is a DEC appeal or any other charitable appeal.
We have traditionally promoted DEC appeals, from the Asian Tsunami to the earthquake in Nepal, the humanitarian crisis in East Africa and the earthquake in Myanmar.
We believe it is important to highlight the ways in which any member of the public can give to DEC or any charity of their choice at any time.
DEC charities and their local partners have been working in Venezuela for many years and began responding quickly after the earthquakes struck. Fourteen DEC member charities are either responding or actively planning a response in Venezuela, demonstrating strong operational capacity across the membership.
They are providing emergency medical treatment, delivering meals and food baskets, and ensuring people have access to clean drinking water. More funds will help them to reach more families in need on the long road to recovery following this crisis. DEC only launch an appeal when they know they can help, and they have three criteria to help ensure that they launch the right appeals at the right time.
We want you to get the most of every donation you make, no matter how small or large. If you are a UK taxpayer and donate through CAF, we will re-claim Gift Aid on your behalf. This will add another 25% to your donation, boosting the income that the DEC can direct towards supporting the organisations who will provide the emergency relief.
