Tax-effective giving to charity

Our products help you to donate tax-effectively to charity, however much you want to give.

Give more with Gift Aid

If you’re a UK taxpayer, the charities you give to can reclaim the basic rate of tax you’ve already paid on your donation. This means that a £1 donation is worth £1.25 to the charity.

If you’re a higher rate taxpayer, you can also claim back the difference between higher rate and basic rate tax on the value of your donation. For a 40% rate taxpayer, that means for every £1 you donate, you can claim back 25p in tax relief.

You can even sell unwanted clothes, books, CDs and more through a UK charity shop – then give the proceeds to charity under Gift Aid.

A better way to give

With a CAF Charity Account you can set aside a little when you have it, so you can make a difference when you want to. It’s simple and stress-free - and because we add Gift Aid, you have even more to give.

Give direct from your salary

If your employer has a payroll giving scheme, such as CAF Give As You Earn, you can give directly to charity from your pay – before tax is deducted.

This means you get tax relief, depending on the rate of tax you pay. For example, if you’re a basic rate taxpayer, giving £1 would only cost you 80p.

Giving shares

Giving HMRC-qualifying shares to charity means you get Income Tax relief on the value of the shares, as well as exemption from Capital Gains Tax.

You can give us your shares or sell us your shares which we'll then sell to create sales proceeds to fund your CAF Charity Account or CAF Charitable Trust.

Alternatively, you can simply transfer the shares to us and these can be held in a CAF Charitable Trust to generate investment income (subject to our investment policy).
