Whether you already know which cause you want to donate to, or are looking for some inspiration, our FAQs will point you in the right direction.
  • I can’t find my chosen charity in your charity search

If you can’t find your chosen charity in our charity search, it may be that we don't hold their information online. Complete our online form to nominate a new charity.  We’ll validate your chosen charity and, if successful, you’ll be able to donate to them through our website.

If your chosen charity is outside of the UK, donations can only be made if you’re a CAF Account holder. If you wish to nominate an overseas charity, please log into your account and select the ‘Donate overseas’ option.

  • Can I search by charity number?

Yes – simply type the charity number into the ‘Charity Name’ box, then tick the ‘Search charity number or keywords’ box. Use our charity search.

  • Can I get tax relief on my “one-off” donation?

Most types of donation through CAF can have Gift Aid claimed on them. When making a credit or debit card donation, you’ll be asked if you’d like us to claim the Gift Aid on it.

If you’re eligible for Gift Aid, simply tick the ‘yes’ option and we’ll automatically claim the Gift Aid for you, and add it to your donation.

If you have an account with us you can also claim Gift Aid on top-ups to your CAF Charity Account by logging in and updating your Gift Aid declaration.

  • Tell me more about Gift Aid

Gift Aid allows you to give more at no extra cost. What is Gift Aid?

  • Why isn’t my donation eligible for Gift Aid?

Some types of donation aren’t eligible for Gift Aid. Donations given through CAF Give As You Earn for example, can’t have Gift Aid claimed on them because they’re taken from your salary pre-tax and therefore are already tax-effective.

  • Why has my donation been made in two parts?
It can take 6-8 weeks for us to reclaim Gift Aid from HMRC. If we receive it sooner, we can send it with your donation; if not, the Gift Aid will be sent separately.
  • I live overseas – can I donate?

Yes you can, but to be able to claim Gift Aid you will need to have paid at least as much tax in the UK during the current tax year as the Gift Aid claim.

  • Can I donate anonymously?

Yes, you can choose to make your donations anonymous if you wish. Simply tick the box marked ‘Donate Anonymously’ when making your donation and your details will not be passed on to your chosen charity.

  • If I donate by card, how long will it take for the charity to receive my donation?

If you make a donation via debit or credit card, it will take 30 days to process your donation. This is in case you change your mind or have donated to the wrong charity. It also gives us time to claim any Gift Aid from the HMRC.
