Charities Aid Foundation responds to the Government’s Levelling Up White Paper
Neil Heslop OBE, Chief Executive of the Charities Aid Foundation, said:
“The Levelling Up White Paper presents an important moment that has the potential to empower local communities and address longstanding economic disparities across the country. Charities are embedded in every community in every corner of the country, delivering services and creating a distinct sense of place. We are pleased that the White Paper recognises the important role that civil society can play, especially because charities are in an ideal position to help the Government achieve its 12 levelling up missions.
“The focus on strengthening local decision-making structures gives policymakers the chance to formalise the role of charities in Levelling Up the nation, and we look forward to seeing how these plans develop. We are also pleased to see the inclusion of the Dormant Assets Scheme, which has the potential to help unlock valuable support for charities across the country and deliver the change communities want to see.
“The last two years have reminded us all that charities are the backbone of our society. As the Government works to implement its strategy, we look forward to working collaboratively with them and other partners to help achieve a fair and sustainable future for all.”
